Running is cool!
February 6, 2026

As you can guess from the title, I really enjoy running, I started running almost a month ago and so far it's been a great experience and one of the most engaging and satisfying exercises I've ever done.
Why did I start running?
It was advice from the book "Soft Skills: The Software Developer's Life Manual", the book has a short chapter about running and the benefits it provides as well as how it feels, I got interested on the topic and decide to try it, not a huge or particular reason to get into running, but that's how I started.
My experience so far
The very first day I went for a run, I didn't pick the best pair of shoes, my feet were not adapted to running yet, and I felt agitated during several parts of my run, I was running for about 5 to 10 minutes and then switch to walking because I couldn't keep the pace (which was a too fast for me and was a mistake not to take it more slowly), I had to take some walk time plus deep breathing until I reach my 3 or 4-kilometer run, all this is normal for a beginner, and it felt really nice since I experience my first runner's high.
The next days were quite similar, but I started improving or adapting to running better, I began reaching a 5 or 6-kilometer distance mixing running and switching, my body felt like it could go a bit longer even though I did felt a bit exhausted.
It those take days and weeks to slowly start adapting, but keep pushing, and you'll start to notice changes, and I'll say all of those are for the best.
Now, after a month, I feel more comfortable running sometimes mixing walking to keep going further, distance is a bit of an issue since I mostly run to far location and then return home walking rather than doing some sort of circuit, but that may change in the future.
How do I feel after a month
I'm glad I got into running, and I want and hope to continue running 3 to 4 times a week with no issue, I feel relaxed while running both in mind and body, I also have the sensation that I'm getting a bit more fitness if you can call it like that, just been able to reach further distances and now starting to reduce my times (running faster and those sorts of things). My mind also feels a bit more relaxed and calm, and I seriously feel serenity while running, almost as if most of my problems go away for some time (needless to say I'm 24 years old and honestly live a very comfortable life, so I may not have that many problems like other people, but still I advise you as well to try running).
Give running a try
I just want to close this by inviting you to try running, it may be for you and help you have a more relaxed mood and feel more at ease in your life, it's a nice activity that brings benefits to your body and life, and it's easy to start doing it, although you'll need to make schedules, ideally you'll run one day and rest the other day to reduce injury risk.
And well, If you feel stressed or lacking of some exercise activity running is great, It has many benefits and in my overall experience of one month, you'll feel better in many aspects of your like, so go ahead and don't be afraid to start running.
